Paint Systems

The Automotive refinish industry has seen significant changes in paint technologies over the years. During it's early years in Australia, Spies Hecker product sales mainly consisted of synthetic resin paint, now referred to as 1-pack technology (or 1K). Since then we have seen a turnaround, with 2-pack (2K) technologies based on acrylic resign now dominant.

The 2K technologies include

Medium Solid Systems (<70%), solvent-based systems, providing high quality results with a high level of application reliability.

High Solids Systems (55-75%), solvent-based systems, with high solid content ensuring very high coverage, using much less material

Water-borne System - offering quality, cost-effectiveness and eco-friendliness as many of the organic solvents have been substituted with water.

Medium Solid: Your reliable technology

Medium solid technology is a convincingly cost-effective technology, providing reliably high quality results. Permacron Series 257 and Permacron Base Coat series 293/295:

Offer Impressive high colour accuracy
Are time saving, quick drying
Are practical and efficient
Are cost -effective

High Solid: Your cost effective technology

High solid paints have been developed to reduce solvent emissions by replacing solvents with solids. A high solid content in the material ensures very high coverage, which results in less time and materials.

The practical advantages of one-stage High Solid Top coat series 270:
High coverage and opacity ensures impressive material saving of up to 30%
Fewer coats require much less refinishing time
High colour accuracy, impressive brilliance and an excellent paint flow
The high solids content also reduces solvent emissions

Water: Your future-oriented technology

Currently over 210,000 tonnes of solvents each year are released in the car sector alone. What can be done to reduce solvent emissions? The paint industry has been working on a solution to this problem for many years, and the progress already made means that many car manufacturers have used water soluble product systems for some time.

Spies Hecker has felt a sense of responsibility and created a waterborne product system that not only meets the requirements of nature, but also those of Refinishers.

But what's the difference between a conventional paint and a water-soluble one?
Ready-to-use conventional paint consists of 3 main ingredients:
Pigments which gives the paint its colour
Binding agents which determine the properties of the paint
Solvent which keeps the paint liquid so that it can be sprayed. Conventional base-coat has a solvent content of around 85%.

In comparison, waterborne paint consists mostly of water instead of solvent. The solvent content of a ready-to-spray waterborne paint can be reduced by approx 90%.

It goes without saying that the waterborne paint still has to satisfy all the demands made on conventional base coat, these being easy applications, simple spraying and, colour accuracy.

The Spies Hecker waterborne system referred to as PermaHyd Series 280/285 is the eco-friendly solution! It can also offer you:
·Efficient Application - many colours require just 1.5coats
·Excellent Opacity means you save up to 30% material
·Greater reduction of solvent emissions and greater environmental protection
